Boromir, son and heir to the Steward of Gondor, represents the race of man in the Council of Rivendell. Though he wishes to use the One Ring to protect his people, Boromir pledges his sword to Frodo to carry the One Ring to its destruction.
Boromir is a warrior and invaluable to the fellowship in his skill and strength through the Mines of Moria, and then, finally, at Amon Hen.
Boromir is tempted by the One Ring time and again and is brought to his knees by the revelations of Galadriel of how he shall fail his people of Gondor. Boromir finds the strength within himself to serve the fellowship as he was meant to do, although in doing so he pays a heavy price.
